This diary was inspired by John Fogerty's defense of playing "Fortunate Son" at a concert for US veterans. It was an article on Rawstory which I commented in, under my same name as here.
Wow. the power of music. I LOVE CCR. And other musicians from my era. Which kind of extended into the 80s and 90s. How powerful a lot of that music was for social change.
I apologize for knowing absolutely zip about current music, but it seems to me that a lot of it is not quite as powerful. But that could just be because I haven't heard any of it. Or any commentary about it - as much as I search on the Web, I haven't seen or heard much current on the Web to inspire me, as far as social justice is concerned. But that's because I live in a Baby Boom bubble. I'm quite sure it's out there, and I'm depending on commenters to enlighten me.
Here's my list of inspirational songs (also other stuff that, while it may be stupid, is just stuff I like)
CCR: Fortunate Son
CCR: Run through the jungle
anything else by CCR
Scorpions: Gorky Park
Guns n Roses: Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child o Mine, Paradise City
Paul McCartney in Red Square: all songs
the Soviet Union National Anthem: which is NOT inspirational to me, knowing about the abuses of the Soviet Union, but stirring somehow
Rolling Stones: Sympathy for the Devil, Some Girls, others
Janis Joplin: Mercedes Benz (which I can sing all the words to, in exactly her voice. RIP Janis)
Lynyrd Skynyrd: although these are mostly NOT anything to aspire to, I just like them. Well maybe some of them are inspirational - notably "Saturday Night Special" "Needle and the Spoon" and especially "Curtis Low")
And a bunch of others. NOT anything by the 60s folkies. they actually bored me to tears, but no offense if you like them.
Anyways. Just a little fluff for Friday night. Tell me what music you like, and why, if you want to do that.
