Yesterday, my mother went to the library and brought home a book on the existence of an afterlife, Life After Death: The Evidence. The book initially did not hold much interest for me until I noticed whom it was written by: Dinesh D'Souza, or as I like to call him, convicted felon Dinesh D'Souza.
Dinesh D'Souza has tried to portray himself as a spokesman of Christianity, publicly condemning atheists. He has also written works of Christian apologetics, including the book my mother brought home.
The attempts of Dinesh D'Souza to promote religion are beneath contempt. This May, he pled guilty to one count of making political contributions in the names of others. Through his political influence and connections, he escaped a prison term, though he still has to undergo something called "community confinement." (Strange how they never seem to offer that to working class drug addicts.)
Furthermore, Mr. D'Souza is a known adulterer. In 2012, he left his first wife, Dixie Brubaker, for another women and was forced to give up his position as President of a small Christian college, King's College. He was caught checking into a hotel with the other woman. Although I personally believe that a political figure's love life should be his or her own business, it reeks of hypocrisy for someone to promote religion and family values when he cheated on his wife.
D'Souza is the walking embodiment of a Pharisee, one who condemns others for their sins while wallowing in far greater sins himself. Surely Christianity can find a better spokesman than him.
