I just got off the phone with my Senator's office in DC to express my opposition to his planned vote to give away the Keystone pipeline. Many here have rightly expressed their opposition to the pipeline for the damage they see it could do to our struggling atmosphere. Let me offer a reason for others to call now to have their senators oppose the vote tomorrow.
This has got to be one of the damn STUPIDEST strategic moves I've ever seen the Democrats do, and lately there's been a lot of damn stupid things they've been doing to choose from.
The Republicans have had their Right Wing Propaganda machine fired up for years to whip their Tea Bagger robots into a frothing frenzy over the imaginary benefits of this pipeline. But anyone who has the most rudimentary understanding of what this pipeline is, knows that it will carry dirty Canadian heavy crude, to refiners along the gulf, to be processed and sold overseas to other countries. So it won't even benefit the Gregorian chanting "drill baby drill" bubble crowd.
The Republicans want this. They occasionally have to feed the lemmings something real to demonstrate the propaganda machine does drop a little fruit once and awhile, no matter how bitter or poison the fruit might be.
Normally, when one party wants something pretty bad, you go through a negotiation process. Apparently what the Democrats don't understand is, you're supposed to negotiate with the OTHER party, not with YOURSELVES!!
We now have a situation where the Republicans want something really bad, and the Democrats might just give it to them, without getting a damn thing in return! So even if you don't know the environmental reasons for opposing the Keystone pipeline, but you really are concerned about the strategic planning and the toughness of our party, there is no better issue than this pipeline for you to call your senator and tell them to quit being strategically STUPID, and start acting like you understand that the Republicans have been running legislative circles around you for years.
Here's the U.S. Senatorial Contact List, so call your senator now, ask their office how they plan to vote, and either thank them for not doing something stupid, or if your senator is going to do something stupid, chew them out and maybe they'll come around.
It also wouldn't hurt for the base to show some strength. The more we call, the more candidates are going to start taking us seriously. And if we don't let them know we're out here, why should they worry about us?
