We got a letter early this week telling of a survey yet to come and to watch out for it.
The "American Community Survey" arrived yesterday. The survey is to be done online to save money and resources. If you can't do it online, don't call them, they will send a paper survey in the mail.
I appreciate the need for a Census being taken but I think this goes too far. After filling it (almost) in, I went backwards and took out all that I could. You can't remove fill-in buttons.
It just seemed really weird to me.
What's our names and dates of birth and genders and national origins. Are we employed.
Do we rent or own. Is is single or connected. Is it on an acre or more than an acre, given a range. What fuel do we use. How much does it cost. How many rooms. How many rooms are bedrooms.
Ok, Ok, but- Mortgages, how much $$ per month. Second mortgage, how much per month. Did I live anywhere else for 3 months or more... How much do we pay for electricity per month.
How many times have I been married. In what year was my last marriage.
What level of education. What did I get my degree in. How do I have health insurance (through employer, direct pay, etc.) Who is my employer. What is their location (complete address) What is my job and explain that further.
How do I get to work. How many hours do I work. How long is my commute.
Granted some questions I can understand, but I really think it goes too far. I should have gone all the way to the end to see what else they wanted to know but it just started to feel wrong.
I researched my ancestry a bit and it was cool to see that my immigrant aunt worked at a lace factory and my immigrant uncle was a baseball player and they had a boarder named "Joe Smith" who did whatever.
I just find this thing intrusive and wondered if anyone out there has gotten this and how you felt about it.
I suppose I will have to go back and finish (required by law, it says) but I'd really rather not.
