Bravo to this wonderful woman for having more control (and maturity) than I might have in the same situation.
In London, last December, a woman observing a protest outside a clinic, decided to take on a group of anti-choice demonstrators. The articulate, angry, and very pregnant woman called the demonstrators 'judgmental hypocrites' (for starters). The protesting bullies were harassing and photographing women going in and out of the clinic. This particular woman waited, then moved in, and schooled the nasty little badgering weasels, leaving them standing there - dumbstruck.
Here is a text excerpt - followed by the YouTube video uploaded by journalist Sunny Hundal:
“It’s wrong what you’re doing. You don’t know why people are doing what they’re doing but you want to be out here judging and filming,” she said, her voice rising. “You’re standing out here making other people feel guilty … Many people have been abused, you don’t know what their reasons [are]. I think this is so wrong on so many levels.”
The unidentified woman who works at Kids Company UK, an organization that provides support to inner-city kids, also told the anti-choicers:
“We work with girls that have been abused, molested, and you've got this on," she added. "You get raped … and then you tell me what you do after that."
Anti-choice demonstrations like this one in the UK, take place all over the United States, as well, and have become even more ugly since the
Supreme Court overturned the 35-foot Buffer Zone ruling this past June.
One solution would be for more pro-choice supporters/activists, like this woman, to speak out and protect women going in and out of clinics. If the anti-choice demonstrators want to photograph women, we will photograph and take videos of the protestors as well, in all their hateful ugly righteousness, and post them on social media for friends, family, coworkers, and the masses to see. Perhaps that will inspire a few to rethink their outside activities.
The battle for reproductive freedom is an ongoing struggle that will most likely continue past our lifetimes. We continue this fight for our daughters, and granddaughters, because our mothers, grandmothers, and pro-choice supporters (male and female) did the same for us. There are many ways we can show our support. Here are 10 large/small pro-choice organizations/Facebook pages you can visit/join now. They offer ways to help and be helped.
