Nancy Pelosi is not ready to roll over without a fight.
Thursday night is the deadline to pass a spending bill before the government is forced to shut down. That means it's likely Congress will have to pass—quickly, especially by Senate standards—a stopgap measure extending funding for a few days while they get to a final vote on the $1.1 trillion bill that would keep most of the government open until September. The House is also likely to vote Thursday on the main bill.
That bill faces opposition on the left because it includes provisions allowing Wall Street banks to engage in more of the kind of risky activities that helped tank the economy in 2008 and allowing rich people to give more money to political parties, among other noxious policies. It also faces opposition on the right because it doesn't block President Obama's executive action on immigration. However, even if a substantial number of House Republicans vote against the bill, it looks likely that enough Democrats will vote in favor to bail out Speaker John Boehner, because:
“You have to be kind of clueless not to realize that this is the best it’s going to get at least for the next two years,” said Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA), as he argued Democrats would be wrong to help torpedo this agreement.
Right, so let's just roll right on over and sacrifice any leverage we might ever have! Nothing bad can come of saying you're never going to put up a fight because why bother! Note that the "kind of clueless" people pushing for changes in the bill include House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. But hey, neither of them is as good at this politics thing as Jim Moran.
In any case, something will happen Thursday, presumably a stopgap bill to allow time to get through the main bill.
