But that's apparently where we are now, and it's a big problem.
Some NYC police, and I assume the head of the police union are desperately attempting to link the cop shooter to the Ferguson/Garner protest movement.
Here's the first problem with this pathetic effort: The killing of the NYC police officers appears to mostly be one more in a long line of rampage killings which we have seen in our nation the past few years. The perpetrator first attempted to kill his girlfriend (was that because of Ferguson?). the info coming out indicates he had a fairly long arrest record, and may have had mental issues (duh). as more info comes out, we'll learn about the meds he was on of OFF at the time of the shooting.
There's zero indication from what I've seen the perpetrator was a social activist; his fakebook ravings indicate otherwise.
The actual problem here is the police department are angry about Mayor DeBlasio prioritizing the cessation of the massive amount of profiling of brown/black people by the police department in NYC after he became Mayor. This profiling was for the most part, harassment of brown/black people in NYC. it had to stop. It's obvious the people who voted for Mr. DeBlasio wanted this to stop, and I think it's a safe bet it's these same folks who are turning out in large numbers now to protest the needless killing of Mr. Garner (and numerous others) at the hands of the police.
If the police feel they are under attack, it's because THEY are targeting, attacking, and killing WE the PEOPLE. we didn't sign up for this; it has to stop.
However, it's clear the police don't want to stop-- and that's a big problem. the police officers who turned their backs on the Mayor at the recent meeting are sending a strong signal and we read you loud and clear. just as the pathetic KKK was finally destroyed via simple application of the law; we're eventually going to do the same to get rid of abusive, killer cops across our nation.
“This senseless murder of two of New York’s finest further exemplifies the dangerous political climate in which all members of law enforcement, nationwide, now find themselves,” Baltimore police union President Gene Ryan said in a posting on the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police website. “Not since the political unrest of the 1960s have police officers been so targeted.”
??????
Let our more astute readers make of this what they will. I'm not optimistic of what lies ahead. as our President has stated multiple times "We've still got alot of work to do". it's very unfortunate for us all that not many democrats in congress wish to engage in this work.
The long term lack of INACTION by congress is untenable; unacceptable.
