I have a present for the nation. Not everyone will like nor appreciate it. But that is something one is used to. It took me a couple years of research and a lot of hours in front of the PC to prepare this present that not everyone will appreciate. Nor did I do it alone. I must acknowledge the readers who have commented on my Daily Kos diaries and the fellow members of the Conversation Salons in the Pittsburgh area in which I participate. I have learned so much from these people. If you are curious as to the nature of your present continue reading below.
As you are aware, our country has a myriad of problems. Environmental degradation, chronic disease, failing educational quality, increasing economic disparity and poverty, various forms of abuse, plutocracy, increasing National Debt, massive wasteful government spending, unemployment, political gridlock, questionable foreign policy, millions without health insurance. The present state of affairs is unacceptable.
I posted a diary on 10/13 of this year announcing the formation of the Progressive Political Movement of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The purpose of this movement was to present people of the 18th Congressional District of Pennsylvania with a write-in alternative to the Republican incumbent who was running unopposed. Over 4100 voters in the eighteenth district cast write-in votes. Although that was only 2.5% of the total votes cast, I was thrilled that a three-week campaign without fund-raising, signage, etc. could produce that result. The Progressive Political Movement of SW PA is no longer. But its modest success has inspired another movement, People for Actualizing Individual Rights (PAIR).
PAIR's purpose is to legally empower all citizens to experience the rights to a quality education, a quality environment, access to a quality Common Good, a healthy life free of abuse. PAIR believes we have a right to governments that do not waste money, that can afford to function without borrowing, whose employees are permitted to operate only within strict prescribed boundaries, a Federal government that treats other nations fairly but firmly.
I am not suggesting that legalizing these individual rights would solve all the nation's problems. But, if one thinks about it, one may realize that it could make a great deal of difference if the rights of the general citizenry relating to health, environmental quality, government funding and spending, even how the federal government deals with foreign countries, were to be given priority over big Business, banks and the interests of the Upper 1%. How to accomplish this? The Plan is the Present. Go to http://www.pair2.blogspot.com for full details and to join the movement.
