South Carolina's Senator Lindsey Graham, at a joint news conference in Jerusalem, has pledged to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his support in conflicts involving Hamas and Iran. He has also vowed that the Senate, now Republican controlled, would approve legislation to impose sanctions on Iran if it does not comply with limiting its nuclear arsenal.
"The United States Congress, above all entities in America, has your back in a very bipartisan way," Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a joint news conference in Jerusalem. "The Congress clearly sees the difference between the tactics of Hamas and the democracy called Israel, and the international community seems to be a bit confused."
Graham said he agreed with Netanyahu that "the Hamas regime does everything they can to kill children," while the Israeli Defense Forces "does everything they can to avoid killing Palestinian children.
Graham continued on to thank Netanyahu for warning the US about Iran and it's quest to get nuclear weapons.
Graham also dissed President Obama's efforts at conciliation, saying that sanctions are what got Iran to the negotiating table and that if Iran tries to walk away from the table, harsher sanctions will follow. He also stated that Congress would support any Bill brought forth that would require congressional approval to end any sanctions against Iran, calling Iranians liars and cheats.
Senator Graham had a few words to say about Palestinians and the UN, as well:
Regarding any peace treaty with the Palestinians, Graham promised "violent pushback if there’s any effort by the United Nations Security Council to set the terms of peace negotiations, avoiding direct talks.
"Any effort by the French, the Jordanians or anyone to avoid direct negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians over the peace process, anyone who tries to take this to the UN Security Council, there will be a violent backlash by the Congress that could include suspending funding to the United Nations," Graham said.
Umm...does Graham have the authority to be making these promises? Is this treason or sedition? I thought only the President had the authority to impose sanctions and/or cancel them. Has the power gone to Graham's little head? Has he opened his mouth and revealed what we here have known for some time...that he's an inept fool?
