As a massive manhunt continues in Paris for the terrorists who killed 12 people on Wednesday morning, House Speaker John Boehner
says that the attacks won't get in the way of the Republican effort to defund the Department of Homeland Security over immigration, saying "I believe that the president's executive actions with regard to immigration are outside of the Constitution and outside of his powers, and I believe that we can deal with that issue in the Department of Homeland Security bill without jeopardizing the security of our country."
For his part, President Obama pledged the support of the U.S. to France in tracking down the killers and said the attacks "underscores the degree to which the terrorists fear freedom of speech, freedom of the press."
More information has emerged from this morning's terrorist attack in Paris at the headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Among the 12 confirmed dead are two policemen and Stephane Charbonnier, a journalist and editorial director of the magazine. The gunmen are still at large with a massive manhunt underway.
The reaction here at home has been sadly predictable, at least from our far right. Fox News military expert Tom McInerney took the opportunity to blame New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio along with President Obama for the attack.
"Political correctness is killing us, this is a prime example," Tom McInerney said. "Look, our own president says that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is not Islamic. Please!" […]
Host Brian Kilmeade alleged that many French cops don't carry firearms, and said at least that wasn’t the case in New York City.
"But with the current leadership in New York, and I'm referring to the communist mayor you have up there, that may change," McInerney replied. "So I think that the world better wake up."
Not to be left behind, Matt Drudge
predictably lied about President Obama's intial response, saying that Obama "hesitates" to call the attack terrorism while linking to a story headlined "Obama Calls Magazine Murders a Terrorist Act."
