I'm still a bit shaky as I write this. A long cold day with three hours spent getting the cell phones changed almost ended with Sprint having no one to hold to a two year contract. I was stopped at a red light. The green left turn signal to let traffic on the freeway entrance had turned to red. Fortunately I didn't start right up as a silver pickup truck ran the yellow light without enough time to make it before it turned red. I was watching for him. As I started forward a red BMW raced through the light that had been red for at least 30 seconds at high speed. It was only fast reflexes and good brakes that prevented Reid and I from being killed. We literally stopped about an inch from that car who sped on oblivious to the fact that he almost killed two people.
I have some questions for drivers. Is it worth it? Is a couple minutes wait for the green light that hard? Do you really feel you are entitled to the whole road? Do you really not care about the lives of others on the road?
I have a massive bruise across the sternum and under the right breast from the seat belt. I hurt like hell. I have to take care of Reid so can't run over to Emergency to make sure it is only a bruise.
I get impatient sometimes myself when a light turns and have been known to hit the gas to get across before it turns red but never again. It isn't worth it. It isn't worth risking my life or someone else's life for a couple of minutes. I'm very lucky to be alive. The BMW driver would have been all right but Reid and I would have been seriously hurt or more likely dead. I hope everyone keeps in mind when they get behind the wheel that red lights will turn green again. Just be patient. The life you save could be your own.
