Recalibrate your word-hole.
I realize that the daily task of filling the unfillable maw of cable news content will not always result in shows chock full of keen insights and must-know revelations, but CNN news-head Don Lemon is making a name for himself that will not be easily be unmade.
Perhaps an intervention is in order.
CNN host Don Lemon asked a Muslim civil rights attorney on Wednesday if he supported the radical Islamic group ISIS. [...]
[Human rights lawyer Arsalan Iftikhar] said that it was wrong to jump to the conclusion that all French citizens who had said they supported ISIS in August of last year would back the killing of innocent civilians.
“Again in August, 16 percent of French citizens support ISIS,” Lemon pressed. “Would you describe those who support ISIS as Islamic extremists? Do you support ISIS?”
The question stunned Iftikhar.
“Wait,” he replied. “Did you just ask me if I support ISIS? [...]"
This follows past Lemon inquiries as to whether God and/or a black hole could have swallowed a missing airliner—he's just asking the questions because other people are asking those questions, mind you—and whether a returning American POW was possibly a secret Muslim now because isn't that sorta like what happened on a TV show that one time?
Perhaps some people are just not made for live television? It doesn't have to be career-ending, of course—you can simply put the show on a tape delay, so that particular moments of your anchor saying fantastically stupid things can get bleeped out, making it look like he accidentally devolved into a minute or two of rampant swearing, and there are plenty of folks who would watch that—but this whole "have Don Lemon ask questions off the top of his head" thing is not working out. As much as it pains me to say it, CNN, I think even you can do better.
