What do you remember about elementary school?
Shown above is the school display in the White River Valley Museum in Auburn, Washington.
What kind of school did you go to? Was it a small school, perhaps only one room for all grades, or was it a large school with multiple classes for each grade? I attended for a short time in a school which had two grades in each room and moved to an area when we had a large school—six rooms for six grades.

Do you remember how you were taught reading and writing in school? I actually began reading and writing prior to school (the first words I could read and write were “beer” and “bar.”)
How well equipped was your school? Mine had up-to-date equipment: there were inkwells in each desk which were regularly filled so that we could write with our dip pens. Ball points and fountain pens were forbidden. The map on the wall, however, was a bit old: printed about 1890 and the teacher had to explain that Arizona and Oklahoma were now states. The map, by the way, showed “Indian Territory.”
Welcome to Street Prophets Saturday. This is an open thread at the intersection of Politics and Religion. This is a place where we can talk about food, weather, pets, travel, hobbies, and whatever else is on your mind.
