In my faith tradition, today commemorates the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist.
Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome.
It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee
and was baptized in the Jordan by John.
On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open
and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens,
“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
MARK 1:9-11
This is another epiphany of Jesus-- the Trinity is revealed with the arrival of the Spirit. But what stands out for me is the part where God sounds like a proud dad. That has always fascinated me.
Peace to you all tonight...
