I read an article today that I just can't comprehend.
It was written by Thomas Franks. I appreciate the contributions of Franks to the Democratic agenda but I honestly do not understand his perspective in this discussion. It seems that he doesn't understand the hurdles of which this president and in turn the Democrats have faced.
As the Obama administration enters its seventh year, let us examine one of the era’s greatest peculiarities: That one of the most cherished rallying points of the president’s supporters is the idea of the president’s powerlessness.
My God doesn't he understand that the Republicans blocked every initiative the President put forth? We needed sixty votes Frank!
Look I know you want a truly liberal agenda but the reality is we have to accept what we are given. We have to be pragmatic when it comes to our expectations. Yes, we all would love for the less fortunate among us to have a stable environment but in the real world pushing that agenda is a fools errand.
Obama is the best that progressives can hope for. As Jonathan Alter once put it, in the course of one of his many assaults on progressive whining, Obama is “the most genuinely liberal president that the political culture of this country will probably allow.”
Suck it up pardner, eat your peas.
