Thank god for awesome viral videos on days that I don't have time to write a lengthier Top Comments diary. (I'm working on a journal article, and it's kicking my ass, so there went most of my day.) I have a good one for you tonight, if you haven't seen it already. Jen Hayden covered this story yesterday, and I considered finding another topic, but the diary did not get quite the attention it deserved.
Aaron and Austin Rhodes, twin brothers known as The Rhodes Bros on YouTube, recently came out as gay. Both of them. At the same time. To live their lives as authentically and openly as possible, they decided that they needed to tell their father. So, on video, they called Dad. And, understandably, they were terrified. It takes almost half the video before they finally get the words out. I know how they feel from experience. When I called my mom with the intention of coming out, I was driving home from Cleveland, and I kept her on the phone while I drove for an hour before I got what I wanted to say out. Watch for yourself, but long story short (and to remove any suspense): They got just the positive and affirming response they deserved. It's well worth the watch, and I defy you not to shed a tear.
Dad's response in a nutshell:
You know I love you both. That will never change. You gotta live your lives. You gotta do what you gotta do.
The video brings tears, but also a big smile by the end. Good for the Rhodes bros, and good for their dad. If only all LGBT people had such understanding and caring parents. There'd certainly be a lot less heartache in this world. Memo to parents everywhere: This is how you do it.
Now, follow me below the fold for the tops...

Thanks to tonight's Top Comments contributors! Let us hear from YOU
when you find that proficient comment.
From Village Vet:
In plan9pub's diary on the chowderheads at the car dealership that harassed a pizza delivery driver and chiseled him out of a tip, Lynn47 offers up a parody to the Ballad of Jed Clampett.
From mojo11:
This comment by rugbymom in this thread put coffee through my nose.
From peregrine kate:
I suspect most nominations you get are comments that haven't gotten a lot of positive notice even though they deserve it. This one by LeftHandedMan, made in response to Rachel191's diary on mansplaining abortion, has already gotten many recs and many approving responses. It will undoubtedly be on the list of most highly-rated comments of today. But it's so darn good I hope to encourage others to read it, too.
From HeyMikey:
I would like to nominate ontheleftcoast's comment on the Supreme Court's acceptance of the same-sex marriage appeal from the Sixth Circuit.
From your diarist, Chrislove:
In BoiseBlue's wonderful diary The unbearable burden of being poor (and it really is excellent--you should read it if you haven't), Puddytat nails it with her comment. Ken in MN also has a good one-liner for us.
