This is was from his "New Rules" on this show broadcast on January 16, 2015.
Now, let me reiterate: I like Bill Maher. He's funny, he's provocative and he pushes buttons. I suppose that's the job of a comedian/satirist
Like Charlie Hebdro, he ticks people off. Like me in this particular circumstance.
I get it When discussion comedy/political satire, nothing in theory should be off the table. Having said that, is being offensive for the sake of being offensive appropriate.
Just because you have a right to do something, should you do it?
I guess what I am really getting to are comments about Rush Limbaugh and "the Color of Change" I'm sorry Rush Limbaugh is an offensive racist\ sexist bigot with no redeeming social values (my opinion) I understand he has a 1st Amendment right to his show but do I have to accept. When did expressing dissatisfaction become the equivalent of a Death Threat.
Who created this notion that "because we live in a free society, we have to accept everything and if we don't , we are a problem? I understand the 1st Amendment , but is calling someone a "nigger" , "fag" , Kike" "bitch" "slut" etc acceptable behavor in a civilized society? Sorry Maher I don't, and while I don't want to see Rush Limbaugh dead, I dont' want to listen to his program. And for that matter, patronize any business that is playing him in the background and, support any business that advertises
If the Muslim community protested in front of Charlie Hebdro, or organized a boycott of sponsors (assuming they exist) I would have no problem with those actions If that makes me "part of the problem" so be it. Sorry Bill. Love your show; will continue to watch and listen but count me out of this one
Let me conclude by saying you have a constitutional right to walk in NY on a cold January day, wearing nothing but a bathing suit but is it a good idea? I think not.
