According to this article, Trent Franks (R-AZ) says his anti-abortion bill will be brought for a vote “in the relatively near future”. According to him, the reporting requirement wasn't his, but rather was added by House Leadership. (I dunno about that. I wouldn't trust this guy as far as I could throw him. And with my bad back, that wouldn't be very far).
Also from the article:
Two other senior GOP sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the party’s leadership had promised to give the controversial bill, the Pain-Capable Unborn Protection Act, floor time in the 114th Congress.
. So, if these anonymous sources, and Franks, are to be believed, the bill will be back. When? Who knows. Maybe they're figuring if they pull it, and wait, people will forget, and
BAM they slip it through. Hard to say.
I do, however, think that Trent Franks comparing abortion to anti-slavery is quite an eye-roller.
This party was born out of a commitment and conviction of hearts, of certain people that were dedicated to protecting a class of human beings the supreme court said were not human. That commitment sustained us in the crucible of a horrible civil war in this country.
He said if the GOP could turn its back “on protecting the children of God”, the party would slide into “moral and political oblivion”. I guess women
aren't to be considered 'children of God'....that only blobs of cells with no brain, heart or lungs are? (wait, a majority of the current Congress lack a heart or brain. Are they really people?!) If he wants to get all Biblical, I do seem to recall the Bible stating that you aren't alive until you're born and God breathes the breath of life into you.
I'd also like to point out to this dipshit that at 20 weeks, a fetus doesn't feel pain. How can a fetus feel pain if the connections from the periphery to the cortex are not intact before 24 weeks of gestation? Oh wait, pesky science facts. They don't matter. My bad.
Anyway, enough rambling from me. Just a warning....this bill WILL be back. When, I don't know. But I'm watching. I don't trust anyone with an (R) after their name. Especially if they're from Arizona. Remember, you can't spell "crazy" without R-AZ.
