I don't know about you, but I think I have heard enough information on the supposedly deflated footballs from the New England Patriots to last a couple of lifetimes!! I mean seriously, every time I turn on the tv or radio there is the latest breathless scoop on so called, "deflate gate." Just in case you have been camping in the mountains or something ( which is the only way you could have avoided hearing about it), the New England Patriots gained a competitive advantage in their game against the Indianapolis Colts be taking a little air out of the footballs that they used in the game. In so doing they provided plenty of hot air for the TV news anchor types. More after the deflated orange squiggly.
It's not just sportscaster types either. Many morning news shows as well as network evening news shows and just about every cable tv news outlet has weighed in on the so-called controversy. As a casual viewer there isn't anything I don't know about the story. It got me to thinking, what if the media covered real serious issues in the same breathless way they covered this one? I mean, you know, something like "climate change." Making the planet uninhabitable for my children and grand children could be very deflating for the entire population.
Many scientists are saying that we have come close to the tipping point where there is no turning back. I think the death of the planet should at least warrant the same breathless coverage as deflated footballs. I think the imminent extinction of our species should warrant at least the same urgent media coverage don't you think? Yet , trying to find any serious news coverage of global warming or climate change is like trying to make a 50 yd field goal with a deflated football.
It is fourth down and forty yards to go with a few seconds left on the clock and the media is acting like it is half time.
