Alabama's only openly (note: openly; who knows how many closeted ones there are) gay legislator, Patricia Todd, says she'll start outing her fellow legislators' marital infidelities if they keep up with their anti-gay, "family values" hypocrisies.
"I will not stand by and allow legislators to talk about ‘family values’ when they have affairs, and I know of many who are and have,” she wrote on Facebook, according to the TimesDaily. “I will call our elected officials who want to hide in the closet out.”
Todd told the Huffington Post that she threatened her colleagues after many lawmakers condemned a federal judge's Friday ruling that struck down the Alabama ban on same sex marriage.
"I don't have direct knowledge, because obviously I'm not the other person involved in the affair. But one thing you would never hear about me is that I ever cheated on a partner or had an affair," she said.
Todd said that she will not tolerate "hypocrites."
More below the fold. . .
For some background, please note (as mentioned above) that -- although she's now ordered a 2-week stay -- about 72 hours ago U.S. District Court Judge (and G.W. Bush appointee) Callie Granade struck down both an Alabama statute and state constitutional amendment prohibiting same sex marriages.
The pertinent part of Judge Granade's Memorandum Opinion:
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that ALA. CONST. ART. I, § 36.03 (2006) and ALA. CODE 1975 § 30-1-19 are unconstitutional because they violate they Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
