As many of you know, yesterday was media day for the Super Bowl. I want to give credit to Marshawn Lynch for stealing the show. We get through deflategate, and a few dances, and all the hooplaw, and then there was Lynch. The guy knocked it out of the park. Nobody else came close.
I grew up in Seattle, in the era of the Sex Pistols, and Punk Rock and Heavy Metal. We wanted to do it our way, and we went to extremes to be different. Then we realized we were conforming to a different standard, yet we were just trying to fit in like everyone else. We missed something.
As the years went by, I grew up, stopped trying to look like a thug, I started trying to fit in, I never really could. At heart though, there was one thing that was always important to me, and that was to be the best. Of course, I realized, I would never be the best, and I learned to be ok with that. It wasn't being the best that mattered, it was trying to be the best. As they say, you can't be the best everyday, its when you give that effort everyday, no matter how lousy you may feel, that's when you give 110%
So I listened to Lynch fly into the face of the media yesterday, and I couldn't stop laughing. I'm so tired of people making pointless rules to make me fit their image. I'm tired of corporate America, and the schools dogma of mediocrity. Lynch is an astounding back, one who finds a way to deliver the goods. He is the heart and soul of the Seattle Seahawks, he spends a lot of time working with his foundation, and even took the time to visit Marysville-Pilchuck after the recent shooting. His actions speak louder than words.
I was talking to one of my fellow employees at work about this, and he doesn't really follow sports, however he hit the nail on the head. Being a nonconformist is about being true to yourself no matter what.
