A bill introduced in the Kansas Senate on Monday with the innocuous title, "School districts; amending the supplemental general state aid calculation," will change the formula for state aid to school districts. The bill is expected to reduce school funding by $39 million in the current school year.
Governor Brownback had called for a change in the formula during his State of the State speech two weeks ago, in an attempt to get around repeated court rulings that his education budget fails to meet the requirements set forth in the Kansas Constitution.
