What's Michael Moore doing tweeting? Isn't he a writer and a journalist? Hasn't he made a fortune in journalism, a low-paying profession? Has Moore's slovenly late-career professionalism dwindled into such a slothful nadir that he's resorted to Twitter to sensationalize himself? What a narcissist and what a charleton!
What's Michael Moore doing tweeting?
Tweeting is something birds do. As well as the famous - like the glitterati - pop singers and actors, as well as professional sports figures. And this is fine. It's a way for these people to keep their fans aware of the little things they think and do throughout their days. Most haven't been trained in building sound argument and don't know a thing about essay writing. These people aren't writers and aren't expected to be writers. It's good that there is a thing called Twitter for them and their avid flocks of followers.
But Michael Moore is a writer. And a journalist. And in the writing field, he's been long regarded as a top dawg. He's one of the guys that progressive journalists who are swimming around as little fish in large schools follow. Yes, Michael Moore is a big fish in a large lake filled with mostly, a lot of small fish. And he's floundering around with this silly Twitter thing and he's become a big embarrassment.
Michael Moore has no business tweeting. None whatsoever. He needs to close down his stupid Twitter account and do something of merit - like make another documentary film or write a long piece of journalism that is compelling, thought-provoking and jarring. Something that will knock the teabagging right off their high horsees.. HEY YOYO! WE HAVE BIGGER FISH TO FRY! GET WITH THE PROGRAM, MICHAEL MOORE!
He should know better than tweet opinionated hateful and hurtful balderdash that makes little sense. And by attacking rank and file American military personnel, Michael Moore is coming down hard on a cross-section of our society that is underpaid, overworked, unappreciated, and very much needed in a world that is a terrible place. Terrorism is real and whether you want to admit it or not, a strong military is required.
Of course, attacking the grand poobah of the progressive left is a big no-no, especially on an internet community and national magazine that is part of the progressive left. I really don't care, though, since Michael Moore shouldn't be resorting to such an attack on our military. I mean Twitter? It's a place of neanderthal writings and musings. It's no place for a celebrated and distinguished writer of the caliber of Moore to be depending on for an audience.
I've been following Moore's posts on Twitter and have come to the realization that he's become an embarrassment to the progressive left. If this is what Mr. Top Dawg does to stay in the journalism game, I'm humiliated. Moore's rambling raves on Twitter come across as the rantings of a crazy man. A Jan. 27 post even disparages those who have been involved in climate change theory: "This is a blizzard? In Michigan we call it Tuesday. In April." What a comedian! And what a fraud!
Having worked full-time as an editor and reporter for a number of dailies and business journals for more than two decades, I think the craze about posting little snippets on Twitter is appalling. I'm a writing snob, yes I am, and journalists have no business tweeting opinions. It's something that birds and brats do - all this tweeting stuff - and throwing up opinionated propaganda on Twitter is a blasphemy to journalism and responsible writing.
In case you've been living in a cave without Internet or cable access, or you've taken a vacay and have decided not to tune into the national news for a while, Michael Moore has been posting disparaging little snippets on his Twitter account as of late. Much of what he has written is anti-military, and it all began, his critics claim, with the release of the blockbuster movie,
American Sniper. CNN Opinion Contributor Dean Obeidallah calls
American Sniper "the most powerful anti-war film I have ever seen."
American Sniper is a film about Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in American history, with more than 150 kills. The movie has created a lot of mayhem on social media with caustic comments about Arabs and Arab-Americans. But Michael Moore's attacks have been, to a large degree, against snipers and the military in general. Of course, there are other targets Moore shoots at, like George W. Bush.
The hysteria started when Moore posted a little Twitter morsel about snipers being cowards and that his uncle was killed by a sniper during the Second World War. Of course, the right jumped all over Moore for being disrespectful to our military, and when Mr. I'm Always Right Dammit!!! defended his stance and further maligned the military in doing so, even more criticism of Moore escalated.
In a 'What would Jesus Do?' hypothetical tweet, Moore said he 'wouldn't put any soldiers lives in harm's way in the first place because he wouldn't have sent them to Iraq. Instead of being a sniper to protect our troops, I tried to save their lives by stopping Bush from sending them to their deaths in Iraq,' he added.
On Jan. 18, Moore tweeted: "But if you're on the roof of your home defending it from invaders who've come 7K miles, you are not a sniper, u are brave, u are a neighbor."
Moore also had a bit on social media that Jesus Christ wouldn't have shot people or sent soldiers into war, a referral lambasting U.S. military operations in Iraq. Over the past weekend, his Twitter blotter read: "What Would Jesus Do? Oh, I know what he'd do — hide on top of a roof and shoot people in the back!"
"But What Would Jesus Do if he could be a sniper & save soldiers lives by shooting 'savages' in the back? ANSWER: Jesus wouldn't put any soldiers lives in harm's way in the first place because he wouldn't have sent them 2 Iraq." - Moore should know better than to use words like "Savages", and bringing Jesus into all this nonsense is blatant proof of a sensationalizing bottomfeeder. Some argument just isn't argument - it's dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric. It's clearly apparent that Moore's a bonehead narcissist who will resort to sensationalism and hateful, demeaning jargon to make a point. And many see our Mr. I'm Always Right Dammit!!! as being more than just an "idiot", as Fox News pundit Sean Hannity calls Moore. Many are calling Big Mike a lot worse, like being a traitor, a coward himself, and an unappreciative lowlife whose very existence as a First Amendment Warrior was fought for, and won, by valiant U.S. military members. And if he keeps it up, this Twitter bombardment, he'll just be ignored in time. Even by the progressive left. Yes, Michael Moore will wind up being like the weird uncle of Victorian times - the guy who was kept locked up in the attic.
The rank and file military is primarily comprised of young people. For many of them, being a soldier or sailor is a first job. They don't deserve being maligned, with their work disparaged, by a guy who has resorted to the laziest form of writing - opinionated, hateful little bits and pieces of crazy talk. Yes, this fusillade of insult and injury that Moore's resorted to is crazy talk....And he should know better. He's a gifted writer who knows a thing or two about building an argument and trying to convince readers to at least listen to his side of the story. Is this the Michael Moore who was one time the editor of Mother Jones? Is this the same guy, with all these recent Twitter scribblings, who produced and directed such compelling and jarring documentaries as Roger & Me, Fahrenheit 9/11, Bowling for Columbine, and Sicko? Is this what happens to a super-successful and phenomenal journalist who's set a high mark for other journalists to strive for? Being a Twitter bird? A 140-character Tweety Bird?
Micheal Moore, if you want to do something constructive, why don't you direct and produce a documentary about homeless veterans, about the young men who have returned home without arms and legs? Why don't you focus on the low-paying, bad-benefit jobs these young people have and how their wives and families struggle financially and emotionally when they're away at war? Why don't you direct and produce a documentary centered around the cheap rogues in Congress who short-changed our military members in their recent 2015 budget approval, even being so cheap as to cut back on commissary allotments?
Get with the program, bonehead, we have bigger fish to fry on the progressive left. Quit twittering and start becoming Michael Moore again.
