Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I thought we might talk a little today about angels but maybe not the way they are usually presented.
The word angel comes from the Greek word aggelos which means messenger. Angels are part of many religions and traditionally in art they are portrayed as having bird like wings and halos. I occasionally use angels in my art work. In my picture Welcome Home Bird I had an angel at the gates welcoming a red bird. My late Aunt Ethel was nicknamed Bird and red birds were her favorite. She was one of the gentlest and sweetest person on this planet. She believed in the traditional angels and Heaven. The picture was to honor her beliefs.
I frequently hear the word angel applied to caregivers. A couple weeks ago Reid and I both had checkup appointments. My doctor was immediately understanding about the stress headaches I get. I have stress tabs and Tramadol for the arthritis. She gave me some hydrocodone for when the headaches get too fierce. After seeing her I went back to where my brother was seeing his doctor. His doctor told me, "I don't think you realize just how much of an angel you are."
What amuses me about the doctor calling me an angel is the reaction of one of my grandnephew's friends who upon learning that since coming out here I had influenced Reid to come out as gay and switch from a hard core conservative to a progressive. According to his friend I was a devil.
Reid considers me his angel. This angel however has the temper associated with her red hair. I have a devil of a temper when aroused. I can also multitask and listen for an ambulance, feed Karo syrup to a brother going into grand mal seizures because of a 30 blood sugar reading, and follow the directions of 911 all at the same time. I can and did curse out the crooked moving company who is now facing federal prosecution based on the proof I sent the Department of Transportation. So I guess it is the devil horns that keeps the stupid halo from falling down over my eyes.
I think angel may be another word for caregiver. Just watch out for our tempers.
