Disgraced General Dave Petreaus and Michael O'Hanlon (who the hell is he?) wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post, the short version of which is America's best days are ahead of us.
Back in the early 1980's, I was an instructor at the Army's Command and General Staff College (CGSC) when an incoming class of Army officers included an ambitious young Captain Dave Petreaus. I came to know him well; he was promoted to Major after a few months.
CGSC is a one-year, Master's degree-level course; each year about 600 officers are selected to attend. Most of them are Majors, a few Captains who are soon promoted to Major. Completion of CGSC is required for promotion beyond Lieutenant Colonel.
Dave is smart -- very smart -- well-read, can talk about a range of topics with considerable understanding. He's very ambitious and I recognized quickly that he knows exactly which ass to kiss.
I suspect this WashPost article is the first step in rehabilitating Dave for political purposes. 2016 Republican VP???
God save us.
