Persuasion through fear. That is how the Right controls many. Fear, hatred, bigotry and fallacies. They create a false premise then convince people it's true. All started with Reagan saying that Government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem. Then they set about to make that a true statement. If you cut operating budgets of agencies they become less efficient over time. It's death by a thousand cuts. This is how the Republicans operate. They tried the direct approach during GW Bush's Presidency to privatize SS, so now they are just working a little here, a little there with cutting budgets so they are less responsive to the public and when the public complains they lie and say it needs to be handled by more efficient private, for profit bankers. Same with USPS who has operated for decades without taxpayer funding and was profitable until in 2006 some unknown legislator attached a rider to a budget bill requiring the USPS fully fund their retiree health fund for the next 75 years, and here's the kicker, they had to accomplish that in just 10 years at an annual cost of $5.5 billion which is bankrupting them. 2012 Senate passed a bi-partisan bill and sent it to the House to fix this problem and Boehner refused to bring it up for a vote, so now the USPS is closing mail processing plants and laying off thousands of workers. After all, the USPS is the largest union employer left in this country, so they have to go. 82 more mail processing plants will close this year and I've already seen a slowdown in the mail and they're not all closed yet. They talk jobs with the pipeline that we don't need while at the same time allowing many times more good paying, permanent jobs to die. So much for their "jobs plan" which is a hoax. The policies that started over 30 years ago were implemented very gradually which go virtually unnoticed in the short term but have profound consequences over time. So those who say if Reaganomics was so bad why did people not experience it in the 80's or 90's and only now experiencing real pain under Obama? Of course they forget his Presidency began within a few short months of the crash of 2008 that devastated this country and the entire world and that does not mean it is his fault. They also fail to recognize, or if they do they will not admit it, that the President does not legislate, that is the business of Congress and they have been controlled by Republicans for 2/3 of his Presidency and he had both House and filibuster proof Senate for only 74 legislative days in 2009, not so much since. His policies have not been implemented since 2009, only Republican policies of obstruction to make him look bad, then blame it all on him. This is called misdirection or diversion. Keep people distracted with lies and propaganda and they will believe whatever you tell them.
