I'm serious. Let's do it.
I think most of us would agree that Hollywood, if not outright racist, treats people of color with neglect and condescension. ("We nominated a Black film last year so we don't have to nominate one this year.")
Overlooking the film Selma for awards? It's by no means an injustice on the scale that the movie depicts, but it's an injustice nonetheless.
I've been thinking what can I do. I've been thinking, how do I send Hollywood a message that I consider its decisions and behavior unacceptable?
The easiest and most immediate thing to do is not watch the show. If there was a concerted effort to get people not to tune in, it would send a very powerful message to the powers that be in Tinsel Town that the snubbing of Selma is unacceptable.
My suggestion then--a campaign, #boycotttheoscars.
Here's the latest from David Oyelowo:
"Generally speaking, we as black people have been celebrated more for when we are subservient, when we are not being leaders or kings or in the center of our own narrative driving it forward," the British actor, 38, said. "We have been slaves, we have been criminals . . . but we've been leaders, we've been kings, we've been those who change the world."
