After a week with my daughter, Norbird has been reunited with his owner. Lil Zen answered a call just as she finished posting new fliers Tuesday evening.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

The caller said "You found my bird!!!" and Lil Zen said "Perhaps he is your bird. Please describe him to me."
She cracks me up. She has been very stressed about how her hunter kitteh, KiKi, had been staring at Norbird whenever the drape was off his cage. She felt that it made him nervous too. She had not had any response to the fliers she had posted earlier but she had just finished papering the neighborhood with new ones when she got a call. The lady was very hopeful it was her bird and after giving Lil Zen the usual description of a cockatiel, she said "And he has a bent leg and is missing a toe on the other foot." and that sealed it! Lil Zen asked her where she was and it turned out she was in the same alley that Lil Zen was in, walking home after having placed that flier not more than 10 minutes earlier. They both turned a corner and saw each other, phones in hands. So the lady came to Lil Zen's apartment, showed her pictures of Norbird, and played a phone video of him singing just like Lil Zen has. Norbird was beside himself to see his mama. Lil Zen gave her the cage, toys, food and told her what the vet had said about being malnutritioned. The bird had been loose since the Thursday before the Tuesday Lil Zen had found him so who knows what he had been eating. But he has great food now and is off with his mom. Everyone is happy except maybe KiKi who did not get to eat the tweety bird.
