Pervasiveness,to spread throughout.
Cynicism
Believing that people are generally selfish and dishonest
Selfish and dishonest in a way that shows no concern about treating other people fairly
Government cannot work, therefore there should be less of it but you still wish to be an elected representative. Just to make sure it doesn't work I suppose. A less cynical person wouldn't run in the first place.
You can deny science for personal gain, rather than requiring any reason other than a feigned belief.
You can deny other people their rights, whilst still keeping a straight face.
You can scream about corruption, but turn around and say that those who give you money hold no influence over you and expect to be believed. Not that you care one way or the other.
It is absolutely soul crushing to watch this stuff day after day, you get wrapped up in this miasma until you cannot see a way out. Honesty becomes irrelevant, facts meaningless and personal gain the only objective.
The truth is bent and shaped until nothing remains. Wedge issues are all that matter, one must win at all costs.
You can tell I am looking forward to this election cycle, can you not.
The reason that Obama one the first time around was cynicism took a back seat and hope became fashionable and the change needed not just a pipe dream.
How quickly the cynicism of "No" took hold, just so that nothing could actually be given a chance to work. Why? Perceived gain, but only for those saying no to everything.
Time and time again we see polls as to what a majority of Americans find important to be done, how often have we seen it done. Instead we circle around wedge issues like drunks in a bar. What's the latest craze today, let's have another one for the road. After all, next time will be different, damn now I am at it.
If all of us today applied what we allow politicians to do on a daily basis in our own workplaces/professions we would grind to halt. We would fail in business, houses would never be built and children would be illiterate.
Yet we except this reality in our State and Federal Houses.
Yes indeed
The Pervasiveness of Cynicism has been nurtured.
After all Republicans, if they were honest about it would say "see cynicism won for us".
Just a thought.
