Since I am still recovering from the flu, for this evening’s meditation I have dug into old files and will be sharing the diary from the second online meditation session held at the old Street Prophets blog. So tonight we will have meditation…and history! In order to include everyone we called them vigils of focused intention and my records show the diary I’m sharing was published on November 13, 2006. Thank you to davehouck for keeping the tea kettle going last week when I was unable to be here. :-)
Last week on the eve of the election, Rain (aka SaraR at DailyKos) organized a vigil of focused intention for the election. Many of the participants were so pleased with the experience, we decided to continue the process. So tonight will be our second observance of a vigil for focused intention, and the topic will be: Peace.
I visualize a world where, one at a time, people begin to realize that the war and violence in the physical world, are a reflection of the violence and anger within each of us.
I visualize people responding to challenges in their lives by pausing, breathing and accepting what arises in front of them, rather than reacting on autopilot in anger and violence.
I visualize individuals having powerful experiences of peace in their hearts, so that they can then choose to turn their backs on aggressive, violent response.
I visualize the light turning on in individual’s hearts, one at a time, and people beginning to actively Practice Peace.
I visualize people understanding that those who cherish their anger, hate and judgments harm themselves more with their toxic emotions than they ever effect the objects of their hatred. I visualize these same people then working to release their own anger and hate.
I visualize people really getting that a self righteous, angry peace protester is just as much a part of the problem as an angry, self righteous fundamentalist.
I visualize people turning in to a way to really bring peace on Earth: by beginning to work for peace within our own hearts, by releasing anger and aggression from our behavior, habits and thoughts, and creating a culture of compassion out of our current culture of violence and aggression.
I visualize the light of peaceful, compassionate hearts being lit, one from another, to another, and so on, as people make the connection and the understanding begins to spread.
I visualize the pockets of peaceful hearts that already exist in this world, igniting the light of peace in hearts around them, one at a time, and waves of peace moving throughout the world, spreading one by one by one like candles moving to light another and another and another.
I visualize the peace being generated in my own heart while taking part in this peace vigil, moving out and touching the people I care for…moving on, enveloping those in close proximity to my daily life…and further yet, to the people who challenge me.
I visualize myself moving through each day, sharing the peace and joy I generate within, with a touch, a smile or a kind word, or even a look of understanding that says, “We are all in this together,” igniting the light of peace, one by one, day by day.
I sense the more I share the peace in my heart, the larger that feeling of peace grows as I continually become a more perfect channel for the peace I practice, and generate within me.
Peace.
