Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH)
House Republicans aren't budging—they will shut down the Department of Homeland Security if the Senate and President Obama don't bow to their demand to undo Obama's immigration executive action. On Sunday, House Speaker John Boehner went on Fox News
and said he's "certainly" prepared to let DHS funding run out. With that statement, Boehner made clear that the only voters he's concerned about are the House Republicans he relies on to make him their leader. Because regular-people voters are not with Boehner and his Republicans on this.
According to a new CNN/ORC poll:
... 53% of Americans would blame the Republicans in Congress if the department must shut down, while 30% would blame President Barack Obama. Another 13% say both deserve the blame.
That follows hard on the heels of the Public Religion Research Institute poll finding that
just 17 percent of Americans think that overturning Obama's immigration action should be congressional Republicans' highest priority on immigration.
DHS funding runs out on February 27. John Boehner might want to reconsider his view that the Senate should just roll over and pass the House bill (a bill the president would veto), because the House bill clearly isn't passing the Senate, and it's congressional Republicans who'll get the blame if Boehner's refusal to budge leads to a major chunk of the federal government shutting down.
