Considering how often we write Top Comments (someone does it every night 365 days a year), where do all the ideas come from? All over the place. Tonight mine came from here, a comment I submitted as a Top Comment, but added to a list of topic ideas I try to keep when my Top Comments Muse is on vacation (or hiding).
Hats off to translatorpro for the idea that sent me on a search for more. And that "more" was depressing. Prepare yourself for disappointment.

Here's KLM Airlines video of Sherlock, the dog that helps people find lost items.
At a time when our own US airlines treat passengers worse than cargo and don't mind losing their luggage at record shattering rates, the idea that an airline goes the extra mile for their passengers was astounding and a very cute dog is always a winner.
There's only 1 problem with the heartwarming story and video. It's all fake.
The ad agency fessed up after the video of Sherlock went viral around the world.
“To illustrate that KLM goes above and beyond for their passengers, we decided to involve a search dog,” DDB & Tribal, the agency that created the ad, told Mediabistro.com’s AgencySpy.
Alex Herwig, one of the ad’s creators, confirmed to Gizmodo that Sherlock was, indeed, a mascot and “not a permanent member of the lost & found team.”
KLM announced the new lost-and-found service, which only serves customers at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, in a similarly misleading press release that refers to their “tail-wagging secret weapon” and links to the video.
Let me hand you a tissue (I had to go and get the box for myself anyway) to dry the tears of disappointment.
KLM does go the extra mile to return lost items to passengers, but there's no beagle involved and never has been. The video of Sherlock zipping around the airport to sniff out passengers and return lost items was just an ad.
So, [sniff], I fell for it just like everyone else. This adorable dog and what I believed an ingenious solution was just advertising fakery. We got played.
With that, I take you to Top Comments.
