We are back after a nice break. Well sort of nice, I spent most of the time shoveling.
Jon was busy too. On Raw, Seth Rollins said he could do anything he wanted in the future, including get elected President or take over as host of "The Daily Show." SETH ROLLINS CALLS OUT "THE DAILY SHOW" HOST JON STEWART (1:08)
Jon of course, had to respond to such a challenge.
Tonight's guest on the Daily Show is Christine Lagarde and the topic on the Nightly Show will be Rudy Giuliani’s recent comments about President Obama with panelists Big Sean, Martin Short, Frank Rich, and Tara Setmayer.
Christine Lagarde is
a French lawyer and Union for a Popular Movement politician who has been the Managing Director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since 5 July 2011. Previously, she held various ministerial posts in the French government: she was Minister of Economic Affairs, Finance and Employment and before that Minister of Agriculture and Fishing and Minister of Trade in the government of Dominique de Villepin. Lagarde was the first woman to become finance minister of a G8 economy, and is the first woman to head the IMF.
IMF Chief Christine Lagarde Expresses Optimism For Greece
In a HuffPost Live interview Monday, IMF Chief Christine Lagarde told Arianna Huffington that she remains optimistic for Greece's economic future, as Huffington's native land continues talks about a bailout extension with its creditors.
Representatives of Greece and its creditors announced on Friday they had reached a deal to extend the country's bailout by four months. As part of the deal, Greece is expected to submit a plan for economic reforms this week.
Lagarde said the discussions about Greece's future should not focus on "austerity or nothing," but the IMF chief emphasized she does believe that Greece needs to go through structural reforms to make sure the sacrifices Greek people have made in recent years don't go to waste. "The focus should really be on how to capitalize on the efforts that have been made so far," Lagarde said.
Lagarde Calls Gender Equality A 'Moral Imperative' That Would Bring About A 'More Profitable Global Economy'
The head of the International Monetary Fund has called gender equality a “moral imperative” that would also act to bring about a “more profitable global economy”. Speaking to Arianna Huffington about the publication on an IMF report into the female labour force, Christine Lagarde said the struggle for gender equality the workplace is “a moral issue, a moral imperative… though quite often you have to demonstrate the business case” to encourage adoption.
Called ‘Fair Play: More Equal Laws Boost Female Labour Force Participation,’ the report, published on Monday, found that restrictions on women’s rights are strongly associated with gender gaps in labour force participation, which can negatively impact a country’s GDP.
On why companies ignore evidence that gender equality promotes profitability, Lagarde said it was because reversing the trend would require a “change in process, and change is always painful.” The 59-year-old former French minister for economic affairs added: “It’s always much more conformable… to do thing the way they have been done, [rather than] accept that innovation can be profitable”.
It sounds like it could be a good interview. Equality for women worldwide is an important issue, and releasing the austerity grip on the people of Greece is very important, but I don't know how committed the IMF really is to doing the latter.
