What was former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani thinking when he said that Barack Obama the President of the United States didn't love America? He along with Scott Walker were at a fund raising event that was supposed to be private when he made his remarks. Maybe he thought no one would notice. However, you'd think a seasoned politician like Giuliani would know better. Sorry, but I think he knew exactly what he was saying. He was trying to put his name in the press where it had not been in a long time. I think it is one of the most vile, ignorant, and self-serving comments I have ever heard. The only explanation is that Rudy Giuliani has lost his mind.
Here is some of what he has said:
“I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America.”
“I think there is something wrong, I don’t know what it is, but I think some of it has to do with the fact that he was brought up as a critic of America as opposed to an unabashed admirer who can exalt in American exceptionalism ..."
In Obama's refusal to tie the Religion of Islam to religious extremists he said, "There is nobody that doesn’t understand that this is a small, but very dangerous and significant section of Muslim belief that comes from the Koran, and to some extent distorts it. And to some extent, the Koran probably needs some form of reformation so it doesn’t have support for these words."
Finally Giuliani said, "He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.”
Never have I seen a politician rise to this level of character assassination. Even recently when Republicans decided to use a scorched earth policy and refuse to give Obama credit for anything, you could ask yourself, can that be true? Everything he does is wrong and nothing is right. Naturally, it defies commonsense. But Giuliani has went past that into fantasy land where he continues to wait for the plane that never comes.
Lets take his statements one by one.
Obama doesn't love America. What evidence does Giuliani have of that? He presents none. As I'm writing this the Nightly Show is broadcasting numerous speeches where Obama declares his support, his belief in exceptionalism, and yes his love for America. Obama does have a more cautious tone than our previous president. For instance, he does not climb into an S-3 Viking fighter plane and land on an aircraft carrier with a sign that says "Mission Accomplished." He appears to make sure the mission is actually accomplished before he proclaim's victory. An example would be the killing of Osama Bin Laden. He didn't announce it until he was sure he was dead.
He talks about his perceived issues with Obama's view of America, but again offers no proof as to why they are dangerous. He says that other Americans like him were not brought up the same as Obama. It is a racist comment at it's core. What he really means is Obama was not brought up white. You know, like you and me, wink, wink. He also seems to forget that in America we consider dissent the highest form of patriotism. It's our job as citizens to be critical of our government. Instead, Giuliani misses the blind spot that is his unwavering unabashed admiration of America which has left him acting as a non-critical sycophant.
Obama has received criticism from Giuliani for not calling Islamic Terrorists part of the religion of Islam. If one were to follow this logic we would have to call the Oklahoma City Bomber Timothy McVeigh a Christian terrorist. But of course we don't.
Giuliani thinks there is something wrong with Obama even though he doesn't know what it is. He blames the Koran and the sections where death and destruction are condoned. In fact, he thinks the Koran should be re-written to change these violent tomes. Of course, he fails to mention the same type of actions in the Bible. The sacrifice of Abraham's son, the section where God orders the Israelites to "not leave alive anything that breath... completely destroy them ...," and the universal destruction in the Book of Revelation which is full of war images, genocide, and destruction. Many consider it the most violent chapter in the Bible.
Giuliani states that Obama doesn't love him, you, or America. Based on his marital history the last person I would take advice from about love would be Rudy Guliani.
The rambling nonsensical words that Giuliani leaves one with make you wonder if he is fit to hold public office again. He is either racist, delusional, or an egomaniac. Regardless, while he states there is something wrong with Obama, the facts show there is actually something wrong with him. Instead of us worrying about Giuliani, we should all hope he fades into the sunset and seeks the professional help I believe he needs. It's clear Giuliani has lost his mind.
