Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. One of the things I love about programs like Cosmos or some of the stories in National Geographic is learning how things came into being. Earth for example had a real explosive beginning and its end will be pretty hot too.
Earth was made out of dying stars. The supernovas of older stars gives rise to new stars and planets. In the July 2013 National Geographic there was a fascinating story on how violent our early solar system was. Apparently beautiful Saturn was quite a hell raiser when young and Saturn and Jupiter loved playing billiards with the rest of the solar system. It has been theorized that a huge meteor slammed into Earth knocking off a chunk that became our moon. Our end will come when our Sun goes nova eating up the inner planets.
With our violent beginning and end maybe we should start trying to give this middle phase some peace.
