According to a new Reuters/IPSOS poll 2/3 of Americans see taking measures to reduce Global Warming as a moral duty. Something we need to do for future generations.
Most Americans see combating climate change as a moral duty
By Bruce Wallace
(Reuters) - A significant majority of Americans say combating climate change is a moral issue that obligates them – and world leaders - to reduce carbon emissions, a Reuters/IPSOS poll has found.
The poll of 2,827 Americans was conducted in February to measure the impact of moral language, including interventions by Pope Francis, on the climate change debate.
The result of the poll suggests that appeals based on ethics could be key to shifting the debate over climate change in the United States, where those demanding action to reduce carbon emissions and those who resist it are often at loggerheads.
Two-thirds of respondents (66 percent) said that world leaders are morally obligated to take action to reduce CO2 emissions. And 72 percent said they were “personally morally obligated” to do what they can in their daily lives to reduce emissions.
Americans views on Global Warming are evolving relatively rapidly. The American people are ready for a shift to away from fossil fuels. Unfortunately too many of our political and corporate leaders aren't keeping up with this shift. Our response will be up to all of us. We can't wait for top down change.
The GOP's response seems to be more clownish stunts from the Republican they've tasked with overseeing this issue.
Senator Throws Snowball! Climate Change Disproven!
By Jeffrey Kluger
Inhofe brought his snowball onto the floor of the U.S. Senate on Thursday and declared that “we keep hearing that 2014 has been the warmest year on record.” Yet in a plastic bag, right on his desk, he had the evidence to demolish that claim. “I ask the chair, you know what this is?” he said. “It’s a snowball, and that’s just from outside here, so it’s very, very cold out, very unseasonable.” Then he tossed the unexpected snowball to the unsuspecting chair and returned to his prepared text with self-satisfied, “Mm-hmm.”
Mm-hmm, Inhofe is an ignoramus with a lot of power.
