I am furious and ashamed that Democrats could sit and entertain the open rebuke of their President by a foreign leader. If this President was George W. Bush what happened today in the United States Congress would not have been condoned.
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood before Congress, and an international audience, and derided the efforts of the President of the United States to prevent a nuclear war as simply “hope” masquerading as a serious negotiated settlement.
He stood up there berating the efforts of the President without offering a single alternative to inexorable war and Democrats sat there, and even stood up, and applauded him.
Democrats sat there and applauded the notion that no negotiation with Iran would be acceptable, Democrats stood there and applauded the prospect of having another potential Middle East war laid at our doorsteps.
Democrats were snookered into attending this event by John Boehner, the Tea Party Republicans, and Benjamin Netanyahu in order to embarrass the President as naive and incompetent, a President out to make the world a worse place by not pursuing a state of war.
This speech was, ostensibly, against Iran, but, as Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic said on MSNBC, this was a speech that also warned: “Do not trust Barack Obama.”
Nancy Pelosi has since commented on the speech:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she was "near tears" during a speech to Congress by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday. Pelosi, a California Democrat, said she was "saddened by the insult to the intelligence of the United States" as part of a group of nations negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran. Netanyahu slammed an emerging agreement with Iran and said it would allow the country to acquire a nuclear weapon.
I have always respected and admired Nancy Pelosi, but I would have been much more satisfied had she refused attending this spectacle. Once again, as they did during the 2014 Midterm Elections, Democrats have made me greatly ashamed.
