Republicans have mastered the "shock and awe" maneuver whenever they roll out their scorched earth strategy. These last two weeks have seen a coordinated effort by leadership in BOTH houses for payback. Clearly the Repubes were blindsided by Obama's maneuver on Cuba. By the time they mustered enough blubbering bluster, it was too late. They'd been caught flat footed and Obama had a win in his column. After 50 years of shaking our collective fists at Cuba and Castro, POTUS decided Einstein was right when it comes to defining insanity. So he switched gears from R to D. And now the floodgates of democracy are open to Cuba. Pretty soon, it'll be just another destination prize on Wheel of Fortune.
IRAN and the throttling of their nuke bomb capability could be the crowning foreign policy achievement for the Obama Administration. The dark skinned president leaves office in 2017 having settled 2+ incredibly long term festering foreign policy flash points with 2 countries full of dark or darker skinned people. The Republicans simply can't allow that to happen and be blindsided again. Especially not w the candidacy of a former SOS looming in 2016. SO... the GOP leadership (aka Koch Industries) has put out the word that IRAN would NOT be another Obama triumph. A tug on the strings of John Boehner and Sen. Tehran Tom and voila, we have a strategy to embarrass and demean the President once again. Its the old Al-Qaeda 1-2. First, you invite the head of a foreign government to speak before Congress without mentioning anything to the Executive Branch.
Outrageous, right?! Or is that Outrageous right!? Anyway, while everybody is still reeling from that misdirection play, here comes the "haymaker". A letter sent directly to the hardline warmongers in Iran demonstrating how much more the Republican senators know about the American system of government. Authored by a "wet behind the ears" senator from Arkansas.
But wait! Now it looks like Bibi may not make it, and "the letter" kind of went over like a lead balloon w the American public.
Time for Plan B. In a gesture of utter transparency, the Republicans are now sharing what the true motivation for all of this was.
"IT WAS A JOKE! That's all. We were just kidding our beloved president. And at the same time giving him EVEN MORE leverage w IRAN. Seriously, you don't think we'd do something as unpatriotic as undermining our government, do you? Christ, look at who wrote the damn letter. Would we have signed onto that if we were serious? What kind of scumbags do you take us for?"
