For many years,
I've felt a big disaster was coming.
In recent years,
I've discovered the nature of that disaster.
More below the divider doodle.
First of all,
the nature of the disaster is:
Sometime around the year 2035,
the world supply of crude oil will run low enough
that the supply of diesel fuel will run low enough,
that America's farmers will not have enough diesel fuel
to
plow,
plant,
harvest,
or transport
their crops
or eggs
or livestock
to the food processing plants.
The supply of food in America's grocery stores
will be so low
that the stores will be forced to limit quantities.
Using my imagination to guess what may happen next,
it seems to me that folks with guns
will enter the stores
demanding more food than the store's limit.
When that happens,
those who work at the stores will go home,
and most Americans will sit at home,
and quietly starve and die.
At least 300 million Americans will die.
At least 5 million Americans will survive.
I'm writing this diary,
and more like it,
to persuade more folks to do what they need to do,
to survive that disaster.
I want to make that 5 million survivors,
ten million, or more.
I want to save millions of lives.
My wife has told me
that posting videos on YouTube
is the new and effective way
to reach people.
I intend to do that,
soon.
In the meantime,
I realized that the example of
Weatherdude
shows me
I can make my page here at Daily Kos my blog,
for now,
and that can be a launching pad for bigger things.
So,
if any of you feel that my diaries about the coming disaster
are out of place here at Daily Kos,
I understand.
But Daily Kos is a big place,
and I feel there should be room for me here,
at least for a while.
I've been blogging here since 2006.
I wrote about my first wife's terminal illness,
I wrote about her death.
I live blogged my wedding to my second wife, Tonia, here.
Before any of you call me a bad man
who has no right to clutter up this site
with my diaries,
skim through my many years of diaries,
pouring my heart out,
looking for emotional comfort here
before you tell me to shut up and go away.
I suppose that many folks will ignore that paragraph above.
But when they do,
at least I will know,
that paragraph is there.
Now for a few links and quotes
to support my main point,
that a big disaster is coming:
http://kunstler.com/...
That link is to the blog of
James Howard Kunstler.
Before I read Mr. Kunstler's book,
The Long Emergency,
a few years ago,
I simply did not know the nature of the big disaster.
I knew that on the one hand,
the fertility rate of nearly every part of the world
is out of control,
meaning a relentlessly increasing number of mouths to feed.
After reading The Long Emergency,
I realized,
the counterpart to steadily increasing mouths to feed,
is the end of oil.
Here is Kunstler's link again:
http://kunstler.com/...
Click on his books link,
buy The Long Emergency.
Or, maybe his book,
Too Much Magic,
might be even better.
But the only Kunstler book I've read is,
The Long Emergency.
I've also read a few of Mr. Kunstler's entries to his blog.
Let me give you another link:
http://americanpreppersnetwork.com/
There are, apparently, thousands of Americans
who feel
that a big disaster of some kind is coming.
And they are getting ready for that disaster.
The nickname they have for themselves is 'preppers.'
In future diaries,
I intend to give my readers many more links and quotes.
I intend to give lots of sources
with information about oil,
and the end of oil.
I intend to take my readers,
step by step,
through my train of thought that led me,
inexorably,
to my conclusions.
But in this diary,
I want to simply point out that what I see is,
on the one hand,
there are many folks who feel,
deep down,
that a big disaster is coming.
There are many others who cannot imagine such a thing.
If you are one of those who feel the whole idea of a big disaster
is absurd,
it seems to me you should not read any more of my smarter prepping diaries.
If any preppers read my diaries,
I say to you preppers,
this is what I,
Big Jack,
suggest is going to be the moment
when the brown stuff has truly hit the fan,
the diesel fuel shortage,
the food shortage,
and all that follows.
If any others read my diaries,
others who are not preppers,
but who feel a big disaster is coming,
I welcome you,
and invite you to consider prepping,
as my family gets started with prepping.
We can learn about prepping, together.
To those of you who feel that our species
will soon be extinct,
as gently as I can say it,
it seems to me that plenty of folks live off the land,
now.
When there is no more food in the stores,
I imagine they will feel shocked,
they will say, "damn!"
And they will keep on living off the land,
with no more ice cream or candy from Walmart.
To recap:
If you feel that any big disaster
can simply never happen,
do not read any more of my smarter prepping diaries.
If you are already a prepper,
welcome,
and maybe you can help me,
learning and teaching,
learning more and teaching more,
about how to get ready,
how to prepare.
If you feel a big disaster is coming,
but you're not yet a prepper,
join me and the veteran preppers,
and start figuring out how you and your family
might survive long past the end of oil.
Thanks for reading.
