Politico has a story on our classroom to prison pipeline.
When I was a kid, if you got into a fight at school it meant detention for a few days, and no prison record.
Chewing gum in class meant writing on a blackboard or on paper after school:
"I WILL NOT CHEW GUM IN CLASS"
anywhere from 100 to 1000 times.
I never got sent to jail for wearing the wrong color shoes or blouse,
I never got sent to prison for burping or farting,
I never got sent to prison for defending myself against bullies,
I never got sent to prison for talking back or talking in class,
nor was I ever subjected to pepper spray or tear gas for doing any of those things.
What has happened to our society that we are no longer able to be fair to kids, and let them make the mistakes they are bound to make growing up?

Articles like these make me glad I'm not a parent having to deal with our insane justice system.
How do you prevent your child from being bullied by the adults that are supposed to be teaching your children and keeping them safe?
How do you reconcile police actions against your child that would get you charged with child abuse if you ever did those actions to your own child?
How do we change the insanity that is our current justice system, with its for profit prisons, that under contract, require them to be filled to at least 90% of capacity?
