Could it be that the nation of Israel has found it's very own Moses for the 21st century? Cut to the chase, the short answer is no. Actually, the long answer is no also. In fact to paraphrase a modern statesman, "I knew Moses, Moses was a friend of mine and sir, Netanyahu is no Moses".
And yet there is one striking similarity that will become evident.
Netanyahu has much more in common with someone in the Hebrew bible just a little older. I put forth Genesis:22 for examination.
Just as Abraham was asked by his god to sacrifice something cherished (not to be overlooked, a god to both the peoples of Israel and Palestine now), so too has the all powerful god of Netanyahu , a tempestuous deity known to all as politics, summoned an act of piousness. He commanded Netanyahu to place the “Two State Solution for Peace” on the high altar of elections and slaughter it. By stating on election night (the Holy of Holies of all nights to those who practice statecraft) that this would never come to pass as long as he remained leader of the Pharisees, he dutifully placed peace on the holy table for all to see.
Interesting side note, he also did have time to light the ritualistic fires (pun intended) and mentioned that a lot of Arabs were coming out to vote, just in case there might be any other sanctimonious people who cared. One can only notice that he has been sacrificing at this altar for quite some time with all of the blood that has flowed down the steps of the proverbial and literal temple.
Well just as in the parable, it would seem that with Netanyahu’s post election comments, an angel came down and stopped him just as he was about to make the fatal cut, signifying indeed he had shown his piousness to this particular god. However, with his election and judging him on past actions and deeds instead of his words/rhetoric, peace is still being held, bound on the sacred platform, with the ritual knife still at it’s throat. In finishing off the parable, Abraham's god did provide a replacement to sacrifice, a lamb. And as a lamb is a universal symbol for peace and peace is already the item on the altar, what could the replacement be? Is Netanyahu really saying that for the state of Israel (under his leadership) to exist there can be no peace at all? I guess the replacement would wind up being the Palestinians.
Remember that all gods do eventually require a sacrifice.
Now about that likeness to Moses. Like the leader of the Jewish people, who delivered them to their destination, as long as a two state solution is the sacrificial lamb, Netanyahu will never set foot in a promised land that is at peace.
