Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Coffee Hour at Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can discuss what’s happening in our lives, what we’ve been working on, and our opinions on current events. Like many western cities, Missoula, Montana is situated on a river. I recently spent some time in Missoula and walked a small portion of the urban river trail.
The original inhabitants of the Missoula Valley were the Salish Indians who called the area “Place of the Small Bull Trout.” In 1812, fur trader and map maker David Thompson named the valley “Nemissoolatako” which became shorted to Missoola and then to Missoula. A little more than 100 years later, in 1916, the Milwaukee Road was operating an electric railroad along the river through Missoula. In 1977 the railroad ceased its western operations. The old railroad bed is today a part of the river trail system which is shown in the photographs below.
Shown above is a nice little rest area alongside the trail.
Street Prophets is found at the intersection of Politics and Religion. The Coffee Hour is an open thread. Politics, religion, pets, peeves, dinner, photography, and so on are all welcome topics.
