I've gone through two companies but the Acid Jazz Channel has been up and around for about seven years. It gives me a lot of joy and allows me to listen to a music video channel that actually plays music. I know. Crazy concept. But the truth of the matter is, we need about a dozen of these kinds of channels and it would nice if the producers were decent liberals. More on this below the fold.
One of the reasons I started a few websites, none all that famous but that was never the important thing for me, is that I wanted to own my own media outlets. It's important that working people or people that have to work for a living own their own media, even if its just a twitter feed or a blog. Or as noted press critic A. J. Liebling once stated: "Freedom of the press is only guaranteed to the person who owns one."
The other horrible face of this of course is the Fox News of the worlds. Or even the more subtle center right CNNs of the world which subtly move the conversation rightward without illiterate blonds or constant liars like O Reilly.
Anyway. I started my own music video channel called the Acid Jazz about seven years ago to counter the Fox News outlets of the world. And I had the same channel or channels at another company several years ago that went belly up. The current version
has about several thousand videos that include Acid Jazz (60 percent), Old Timey Trad Jazz (15 percent), Alt Rock ( 15 percent) and just weird things I like (10 percent.) Average listening time starts at an hour so people that like it like it for hours at a time. It's supposed to work that way. You can also skip songs you don't like. It's also filled with the kind of policy pieces that you would expect from someone in The Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democratic Party.
But here's the thing, even though I've gotten some traffic, there need to be more of these kinds of channels. It would be a great way to not only share some songs but also some politically astute messages. Imagine if MTV was politically left leaning and they played music videos, again.
So, I wish more people would use the services of WorldTV, or a competing service (Not aware of too many services that do what WorldTV does..). A thousand alternative music video stations playing, say, during the 2016 election, pushing the presidential run oof Hillary Clinton or Martin O Malley or if the Boston Globe is influential anymore Elizabeth Warren might counteract Fox. Or at least that's the dream. I also want to steal from other people's channels.
Anyway. Here's where you can listen to it:
http://worldtv.com/...
You can also embed the channel. I've found that its a way to spice up my old not updated sites with new material, such as here:
http://www.majic12.com
Even though it looks like a regular youtube channel you would have to listen to it for months to listen to all the videos. The theory is that everytime you listen to it you should hear something new. Any feedback would be appreciated. If you like your Charles Mingus mixed in with your Tortoise mixed in with your Grass Widow, with just a splash of Zappa then this channel is for you. If you hate or don't know who those artists are, well, create your own channel. Hey, I'm over 50. I'm probably not capable of building the next hot thing. I play old songs. Whatever. But it would be nice if the someone that built that channel was a Kossack.
Warning: Some of these vids aren't safe for work.
