Sao Paulo is rapidly descending into a dystopian crisis that is a harbinger of future world calamity brought about by shifting climate regimes. This city of 20 million people has recently had to endure mandatory water shutoffs for 4 days of the week. This is what it looks like.
Isabela Berger Sacramento at her apartment, which lost its water supply for four days earlier this month. ‘We saw people behave like animals in our building, so imagine 20 million people’.

São Paulo – anatomy of a failing megacity: residents struggle as water taps run dry

"My workmates keep fretting about how they are going to stay clean if their water runs out,” says Berger. “They have no idea: when the water goes off, bathing is the least of your problems.” Berger was able to shower at her father’s apartment 20 minutes away, and found that at home a mixture of wet wipes and a damp flannel worked relatively well, at a push.

This loss has, in turn, increased the prevalence of forest-destroying understory fires. And, according to a 2012 NASA study these understory fires have been burning away the Amazon at the rate of more than 30,000 square miles every ten years for nearly two decades. By late this Century, business as usual fossil fuel emissions and related warming of 4 degrees Celsius is expected to destroy about 85 percent of the Amazon, resulting in widespread desertification of a once-lush region.

What does this mean for the United States?

See that white spot in the U.S. Midwest, that white spot is located in Dunes, Nebraska That is where there were shifting sands of deserts only 1,000 years ago during an intermediate period of regional warming. This medieval climate anomaly is a pale shade of a comparison to the 3-6 degrees C of warming we will be experiencing in the next 6 decades.

(from the linked report)
These dunes are oriented NW-SE and are composed of cross-strata with bipolar dip directions. The trend and structure of the dunes record a drought that was initiated and sustained by a historically unprecedented shift of spring-summer atmospheric circulation over the Plains: Moist southerly flow was replaced by dry southwesterly flow.

I had a guy try to tell me online that California wasn't really experiencing abnormal heat because all of the high heat records are from urban centers and are caused by heat island effect. I told him that I live in the mountains of Northern California and for the first time in recorded history our summer gardens survived the winter.
I also had one try to tell me that the California drought wasn't bad because the average station index was still about average. Being that the average of death valley getting 200% of its normal rainfall (a WHOLE 2 inches more) was then averaged with the Sierra Nevada site that got 1/3 as much (a 60 inch deficit) so the two balanced each other out.
Both of these individuals regurgitated lies that had been recently disseminated by denialist propaganda outlets like Watts Up With That and Climate Depot. These organizations are heavily funded by the fossil fuel industry.
This is the abysmal state of affairs today. We will directly experience the catastrophic effects of climate change and Judas "scientists" (really just pseudo scientists like Marc Morano) and paid propagandists will attempt to convince us that our personal experience and observations are not real.

They will do this unto the very end and there are some who will choose to follow them, as sheep will follow the Judas goat to the slaughterhouse. They work to murder our children. When will we stand up and demand an account for their treasonous crimes???
