I have been trying to find audiobooks that I can listen to at work. Youtube has audiobooks posted, I found out.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Funny how many people have been checking out books by Terry Pratchett in the last few weeks. In many different formats. They haven't been available very readily from the library, which is why I checked Youtube.
I haven't read The Colour of Magic since it was new - on the recommendation of my oldest and dearest, I must admit. I found it unabridged on Youtube, and discovered that it was very much what I remembered. Being a big fan of the City Watch, I checked those titles.
If these audiobooks are any indication, if you want to try Youtube audiobooks, expect commercials at odd intervals. They do allow you to skip them after about 10 seconds, but you can hear two in 15 minutes and then go for several hours before there's another one.
Guards! Guards! was fun. I do like Errol, and I have a great fondness for Sam Vimes and Lady Sybil.
Men at Arms started spinning its wheels at 6:37:43. I have no idea if it ever starts up again - I let it run for about an hour and it didn't. Fortunately, I have the book in hard copy.
Feet of Clay has some odd echos. After about the first three or four hours, there is a faint doubling of the narration. It stops after a while and then starts up again after another hour or so. It's the same words, much quieter, and a bit distracting - but it's not so loud I couldn't follow the story. Eventually it stops again, and the rest is fine.
I am currently listening to Jingo.
The Fifth Elephant is the only City Watch one remaining. There are others, but not all that many.
I noticed that some of the animated movies are also posted there, but I haven't checked any of them out.
