Sad, but true, is that our comedians do better political reporting than our mainstream journalists. One of the funniest and sharpest political comedians is, of course, John Oliver. Today in The Verge you can
see his interview in Russia with Edward Snowden.
The most remarkable takeaway from the episode is that Oliver came up with a way to get the average citizen to actually become concerned about the NSA's activities: dick pics. In the latter part of the interview, he asks Snowden to comment on how the NSA would use its various authorizations and programs to intercept, store and review someone's naked photos...and "man in the street" interviews reveal how that makes the average person finally pay attention to the perils of the surveillance state.
