Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)
Rand Paul will have a big field of other Republicans to fight through to get his party's presidential nomination, but they're not who he's choosing to target. No,
Paul's favorite rhetorical target is Hillary Clinton, as he once again made clear in an interview with Politico Tuesday.
Laying the groundwork for the months ahead, Paul savaged Clinton for the handling of her email as secretary of state: “She’s saying: ‘Well, you need to trust me even though I broke the rules, and maybe the law to begin with.’ … I think a lot of Americans are going to say: ‘Hmm, that doesn’t sort of pass the smell test.’”
And he lit into the “trail of money” to the Clinton Foundation from Middle Eastern governments that allegedly abuse women and from donors who may have benefited from State Department action. (The foundation denies that its use of foreign funding has been in any way improper.)
Ah, yes, email servers and foundation funding. The two issues that most motivate American voters, election after election. Then again, at least this time Paul wasn't attacking Clinton for
being a woman or for things her husband did
close to 20 years ago. And at least he wasn't repeating the
debt-and-deficit lies that peppered his announcement speech.
