Freeping a poll in April?? Well, yes. We've got a special election going here in Staten Island (and part of Brooklyn) for the House seat vacated by Congressman Convict Michael Grimm.
Tonight was the big debate between Dan Donovan (the DA who couldn't get a conviction against the officer who shot Gardner) and a sweetheart of a Dem, Councilman Vinnie Gentile. The local newsprint put up one of those webpage poll thingys asking "who won".
More below the squiggle seeking a metaphor
I've known Councilman Vinnie for years and worked on his campaign for State Senate for my Staten Island district (which he won, btw, but lost to redistricting).
This is a gentleman and committed hard-working Dem who's not afraid to say he's a Dem on his lawn signs. His campaign has been entirely focused on the issues facing the lower and middle classes and he has kept the campaign on a high level by NOT using the Gardner issue to run on.
Donovan, on the other hand, is an empty suit who will be just another Repub robot, doing what Repub money tells him to do.
I unfortunately, could not listen to the debate tonight because of a conflict, but I assure you Gentile won the debate.
Right now, Donovan is leading in that post debate poll 60 to 40%, with 365 votes cast.
The readership of the SI Advance is mostly that right-wing Staten Island demographic, which would explain the poll vote so far.
What do you say people? Shall we scare 'em a little with a numbers adjustment?
Special election is May 5. It's a House seat, folks! Let's flip it.
[update] 453 votes in. Gentile closes gap to 10% deficit from 20%
[update2] 494 votes. Gentile down by 7%.
