Maybe crazy behavior isn't so crazy.
Sometimes, the rantings of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck (and the lies of George W. Bush) tend to enrage and confuse. But I think, viewed through the lens of untreated addiction, logic does intrude. Morris Berman is the only author I've read who caught what I did: President Bush may have put down the bottle (or so he says (I have my doubts: Remember the cookie choke with no dogs present in distress)), but he didn't take the steps to grow up.
These clowns all have untreated addiction, and it shows in the ranks, lies, and cruelty, attributes any fellow recovery travelers would harshly criticize them for.
In one of Rush's biographies, one reviewer noted there was nothing earth shattering in it. Not so: The author mentioned Rush enjoyed $400 bottles of wine. I don't care if he likes ritzy bottles of wine or $2.50 bottles of Mad Dog 20/20, his substance abuse is alive and well.
