This is the second entry into our four part series about the phases of our Moon. As before, I'll be focusing on the astrological meaning of the Moon phases. This week we'll be discussing the First Quarter Moon and the Waxing Gibbous Moon phases.
Please follow me below the orange curlicue for more. As always, thanks to Itzl for his looking out for us.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

A brief recap of last week's diary:
The Moon takes 27.3 days to cycle through its lunar phases from New Moon to Full Moon and back again to new. This explanation is a little misleading because the lunar phases are actually the relationships between the Sun and the Moon each cycle. The Moon doesn’t change; what changes is the relationship that starts each lunar cycle: a conjunction between the Sun and the Moon progresses to a waxing (growing) square (90 degrees) of the moon to an opposition (180 degrees) of the Sun and Moon at the full moon, back to a waning square and dark of the moon to start another cycle at the New Moon.
I like to think of this as a reflection of the constant change that is inherent in all life and all forms. Nothing stays the same.
The Moon takes approximately 29.5 days to travel through all 12 of the zodiac signs. This is why each month the New and Full Moons are in a different zodiac sign than the previous month.
New Moons are best for starting the seeds of new project, creative ventures, and new plants. People born at the New Moon are naturally curious and love to explore the world. They may be naive and are young at heart all of their lives. They have a hard time discerning between inner and outer realities. They are open to all of life’s experiences and delight in experiencing what comes back to them in reaction to their actions.
First Crescent Moons are the times when obstacles first start to appear in relation to the new beginnings started at the New Moon. The people born at this phase of the Moon are looking to become individuals in the world. They are insecure and uncomfortable with moving forward. Learning new skills and strategies helps them to move past the obstacles in their lives. Their purpose is to become their own person in this lifetime.
This week, we'll discuss First Quarter and Waxing Gibbous Moon personalities.
Those born under a First Quarter Moon (the Moon is 90 to 135 degrees ahead of the Sun) experience the drive to build structures to support the emerging individual. They often experience tremendous energy in their lives. This energy is best put to use molding their environment akin to a plant assertively shooting out new roots and forth new branches and leaves. Old structures frequently fall apart around them; they are tasked with creating new ones, whether new social constructs or new relationship interactions.
In other words, these people need to create a solid base for themselves in society, expend their energy going after what they want and assert their will to rid themselves of anything that may be holding them back.
Both Joseph Stalin and Oliver Cromwell were First Quarter Moon personalities.
Waxing Gibbous Moon (the Moon is 135 to 180 degrees ahead of the Sun, just before the Full Moon) personalities are the critics of the structures that have been built during the First Quarter. They feel the need to improve, refine and clarify personal and/or broader societal issues. They are setting the buds in anticipation of the flowering of the vision. They frequently have analytical and sharp minds. They adjust the structures already built, experimenting with what does and does not work. What drives them is a certainty they are on the brink of a great revelation in their vision.
Their expression of their life purpose can be seen in their critical analysis, their constant refinement and their drive to improve themselves in order to contribute something to society that has practical value.
Lord Byron, Louis Pasteur and Franklin D. Roosevelt were all Waxing Gibbous Moon personalities.
Next week we'll discuss Full Moon and Gibbous Moon personalities.
